Sons of Roses

Toronto
Category: Editorials

Here at Banga Studios, we love collaborating! As wedding photographers, we get to see a wide range of talent and expression in our amazing industry worldwide; specifically as Toronto wedding photographers, we get to work with so many incredible vendors right here in our own city. That’s exactly why we were so excited to team up with “Must Be Kismet” for a beautiful editorial shoot called “Sons of Roses.”

While marriage and wedding ceremonies have been taking place in many cultures and religions for thousands of years, there is always room to keep moving forward in our thinking and create new traditions. “Sons of Roses” aims to interweave the LGBTQ+ and South Asian communities. It is a celebration of love, a love of expression, and an expression of religion and individuality in harmony.

For GB, Prabjhot, and Viran, it was a new and exciting experience to let someone else take the creative lead. The project was spear-headed by Saira Hussain from Breath of Henna & The Sai Lens in joint collaboration with the magazine. “It was cool and it was different,” GB told us.

It was also really special for the team to really showcase members of the LGBTQ+ community and really allow the models to express themselves in a way that embraced their diversity and beauty. Haran Vijayanathan and Humza Mian (who are not a couple in real life) embraced the role of our blushing grooms, and Abhirami Balachandram and Angel Glady joined as friends of the happy couple – all members of the South Asian LGBTQ+ community here in Toronto. Prabhjot beamed, “Being a member of both the South Asian and LGBTQ+ communities, it was wonderful to see the merging and the support of same-sex marriage. It was a beautiful way to show that although we are south Asian love is love and that’s really just it.” “This was my first time shooting with models from the LGBTQ+ community, so it was great to meet and interact with them,” Viran remembers.

Thank you to the incredible team of vendors, the wonderful models, and everyone at Must Be Kismet for this life-changing experience! We are so honoured to be part of this daring and thought-provoking shoot, and hope that it inspires many to be themselves and not be afraid to love who they love. For when it comes down to it, it’s not your preference that defines true love – it’s your connection.
